Anies Calls The 2024 Election Results Not Reflecting The Quality Of Democracy
Presidential candidate number 1, Anies Baswedan said the General Elections Commission (KPU) had announced the vote acquisition for each contestation in the 2024 General Election (Pemilu). However, it does not reflect the quality of democracy.
He made this statement when giving a statement at the beginning of the trial of the dispute over the results of the general election (PHPU) at the Constitutional Court (MK).
"Your Excellency Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, we have witnessed an important chapter in our democracy, last month, namely the general election process, whose vote numbers have been officially announced by the General Elections Commission," said Anies, Wednesday, March 27.
"But we need to underline that
"The number of votes does not absolutely determine the quality of democracy, it does not automatically reflect the quality as a whole," he continued.
Good democratic quality is not reflected from the preparation stage to the announcement. Supposedly, the election process should apply the principle of luber jurdil or direct, public, free, secret, honest, and fair.
"These principles are not a formality, not just in the text, but this is an essential foundation that must be maintained to build and maintain a healthy, stable, and sustainable democratic system," he said.

According to him, the implementation of elections without prioritizing freedom, honesty, and justice will only have an impact on the doubt of legitimacy and credibility of the elected government.
"Without it, the legitimacy of the credibility of the elected government will be in doubt, furthermore, the election that is carried out honestly and fairly is actually the recognition of the basic rights of every citizen in determining the direction and future of their own country," said Anies.
For information, the presidential election dispute lawsuit filed by Anies and Muhaimin has case number 2/PHPU.PRES-XXII/2024. In the lawsuit, they wanted a re-voting by disqualifying Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
