PSI Opens Opportunities To Promote Kaesang To Be Cagub DKI 2024 But Blocked By Law On Age Limits

JAKARTA - Chairman of the DPP Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI) William Aditya Sarana admitted that his party opened the opportunity to carry its general chairman, Kaesang Pangarep to run in the 2024 election for the Governor and Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta.

However, Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning the Election of Governors, Regents, and Mayors (UU Pilkada) limits the age of candidates for governors to a minimum of 30 years. Meanwhile, the age limit for the candidate for deputy governor is 25 years.

In terms of age, the youngest son of President Joko Widodo will only be 30 years old on December 25, 2024. At least, if there is no change in the age limit for a candidate for governor with a minimum age of 30 years, Kaesang can be proposed as a candidate for Deputy Governor in this year's Pilkada.

"For Mas Kaesang, in my opinion, he is a very good figure. In my opinion, if the administrative system can be fulfilled, I think one of the figures that can be carried is Mas Kaesang," William told reporters, Tuesday, March 26 evening.

However, the chairman of the PSI faction of the DKI Jakarta DPRD admitted that there are a number of other cadres that PSI can carry in the DKI Regional Head Election. One of them is the Deputy Chairman of the PSI Board of Trustees, Grace Natalie.

"In addition to Mas Kaesang, we also have the figure of Sis Grace. Sis Grace has the largest voice in the (Pileg 2024 DPR RI) electoral districts of West Jakarta and North Jakarta, DKI III," said William.

"From Sis Grace's extraordinary vote, I think that the public's trust in Sis Grace is great. It means that the people of West Jakarta and Jakut are trusted," he continued.

a William emphasized that the criteria for the candidate for Governor and Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta promoted by PSI are figures who have similar performances with Joko Widodo.

While serving as Governor of DKI since 2012, PSI assessed that Jokowi had shown that leaders could be close to their people.

Jokowi is also considered to immediately understand Jakarta's problems with his frequent leadership style.

"He is of a very different leadership style and creates hope, a leader who wants to go down, a leader who removes the barrier between the people of Jakarta and its leaders," he said.

William admitted that his party had not conducted a direct field survey regarding the satisfaction of the people of Jakarta regarding Jokowi's performance while serving as Governor of DKI.

However, at least PSI has captured the aspirations of its constituents who really want a figure like Jokowi to continue his leadership in Jakarta.

"We are trying to attract communication with PSI constituents. They want a governor of DKI Jakarta who is similar to Pak Jokowi. So I don't think this is a claim, yes, but a longing that I think we should answer," he added.
