EU Starts Investigation Of Apple, Google, And Meta For Violation Of EU Technology Rules

JAKARTA - On Monday, March 25, EU antitrust regulators opened their first investigation under the Digital Markets Act to Apple, Google, and Meta Platforms on potential breaches of historic EU technology rules.

"The Commission (Europe) suspects that the steps taken by the controller have not fulfilled effective compliance with their obligations under the DMA," the EU executive said in a statement.

EU competition enforcement will investigate Alphabet's rules regarding directors on Google Play and personal preferences on Google Search, Apple rules on directors on the App Store and selected screens for Safari, as well as Meta's 'payer model or approval'.

The Commission has also started investigative steps related to Apple's new cost structure for alternative app stores and Amazon-ranked practices on its market.
