Former Head Of PUPR Papua Sentenced To 4 Years 8 Months In Prison

JAKARTA - Former Head of the Papua Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (Kadis PUPR), Gerius One Yoman, was sentenced to 4 years and 8 months in prison in a case of gratification in project procurement within the Papua Provincial Government (Pemprov).

Chairman of the Panel of Judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court (Tipikor) Rianto Adam Pontoh stated that Gerius One was legally and convincingly proven according to the law guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption together and gratification as the first indictment and the second indictment.

"The panel of judges sentenced the defendant to 4 years and 8 months in prison," Pontoh said in a trial reading the judge's verdict at the Jakarta Corruption Court as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 20.

In addition to imposing a prison sentence, the panel of judges also imposed a fine of Rp. 200 million on Gerius One, provided that if it was not paid, it would be replaced with a substitute imprisonment of 3 months.

Gerius One was also subject to a replacement fee by the panel of judges of Rp4.59 billion. If Gerius could not fulfill the sentence, Pontoh said that the defendant's property could be confiscated and auctioned off to pay the replacement money.

"In the event that the defendant does not have sufficient assets to pay the replacement money, he will be sentenced to 1 year in prison," he added.

He explained that several things that incriminate the verdict of Gerius One, namely that the defendant did not support the government's program in realizing the government and state bureaucracy that was clean and free from corruption, collusion and nepotism.

Meanwhile, mitigating factors, continued Pontoh, were that the defendant had never been convicted, was polite during the trial, and had family responsibilities of a wife and child.

The verdict is lighter than the demands of the Public Prosecutor of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), which is 7 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 350 million, subsidiary to 4 months in compensation.

Previously, Gerius was charged with receiving gratuities from a number of parties with a total of Rp5.76 billion in the form of money and renovation and procurement of official housing worth Rp2.59 billion from Rijatono Lakka as Director of PT Tabi Anugerah Pharmindo, PT Tabi Bangun Papua, as well as CV Walibhu.
