Hyundai Records Sales Of Global Vehicles Down February, Environmentally Friendly Cars Down Significant

JAKARTA - Not only experienced by BYD, Tesla, and other major manufacturers, Hyundai Motor Company recorded unsatisfactory sales results in February. The automotive giant from South Korea recorded global sales of 314,909 units during that period, a decrease of 4.1 percent.

Thus, the company's total sales in the first two months of this year reached 632,765 units, a decrease of 0.9 percent compared to the previous year. This decline also includes sales of environmentally friendly vehicles in the Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) and Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) segments.

According to a report from InsideEVs, Monday, March 18, environmentally friendly car sales in February involving Hyundai and Genesis brands reached 16,482 units, a 46 percent decline. This is the fourth consecutive decline.

From the BEV segment, combined sales of Hyundai and Genesis reached 13,880 units, a decrease of 45 percent. Meanwhile, PHEV sales reached 2,602 units, a 50 percent decrease compared to the previous period.

Among the BEV models, globally highest wholesale sales in February fell to Ioniq 5 with 6,705 units (down 33 percent), followed by Kona Electric with 4,588 units (down 33 percent), Ioniq 5 N with 883 units, and Ioniq 6 with a total of 683 units (down 90 percent).

Furthermore, the premium Genesis brand also experienced a decline in sales, with total wholesale sales of 1,021 units for its three models, namely the Electrified G80, GV60, and Electrified GV70, although the exact figures were not mentioned.

In the first two months of 2024, Hyundai Motor Company recorded global sales of BEV and PHEV vehicles as many as 35,000 units (down 31 percent). Sales of BEV vehicles in January-February reached 29,425 units (down 32 percent), with Hyundai contributing 27,728 units and Genesis 1,697 units.

Meanwhile, sales of PHEV vehicles represented only by Hyundai reached 5,715 units (down 27 percent) compared to the previous year.
