Former Investigator: 15 KPK Employees Involved In Extortion Become Dark Day In Corruption Eradication
JAKARTA - Former/ex Investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Yudi Purnomo said the corruption committed by 15 suspects consisting of former employees of the KPK Detention Center, namely making illegal levies (extortion) into a dark day in eradicating corruption.
"How could it not be, when they worked as KPK employees should have been moral guards and anti-corruption integrity, they turned out to be perpetrators of corruption," said Yudi in Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday, March 16.
According to this anti-corruption activist, the suspects committed acts of corruption while working at the KPK Detention Center, by entering cellphones or other items, including filling in cellphone batteries.
What makes it even more sad is that his actions are the same as corrupt behavior. There is an agreement between them to conspire, there is money that is requested, has codes, there is a holding account and there is a distribution of money according to the portion of office in the detention center," he said.
Although those involved in extortion were 90 people, said Yudi, according to the Decree of the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) who received extortion money totaling Rp6.3 billion since 2019-2023, 15 suspects were determined.
According to him, this may be a strategy from investigators to make the case into several groups and it could occur in corruption cases involving many people because of the interests of investigators.
For example, he said, intellectual actors first or suspects with high positions, witnesses who provide information or limitations of investigators.
"Or it could be that investigators want to speed up the completion of the case first so that it can be tried immediately," he said.

Yudi said the detention of these suspects should make the KPK a momentum for cleaning internally at the KPK from all corrupt behaviors.
"Because it is impossible to eradicate corruption if it is carried out by corrupt people," he said.
He added that all KPK employees in any field must uphold the values of integrity, including the KPK leadership, must be role models.
