KKP Captures 2 Indonesian Fishing Vessels Violating Rules In Makassar Strait

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) has arrested two Indonesian fishing vessels (KII) suspected of violating fishing areas in the Fisheries Management Area of the Republic of Indonesia (WPPNRI) 713 Makassar Strait.

Acting Director General of Marine and Fishery Resources Supervision (PSDKP) KKP Pung Nugroho Saksono in his statement in Jakarta, Friday emphasized that this was an effort to preserve marine and fishery resources, as well as a preventive measure so as not to cause horizontal conflicts between fishermen.

"In addition to allegedly committing violations of fishing not according to the licensing area, the two ships were secured to prevent potential conflicts with local fishermen," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, March 15.

Ipunk ensured that he had instructed all ranks in the field to be firm.

We received information that many ships violated fishing areas in the Makassar Strait. If you find the fishing vessel, or those that operate fishing gear that is prohibited and damages the sustainability of marine and fishery resources, immediately take firm action, arrest and process in accordance with regulations," said Ipunk.

The Shark Monitoring Vessel 07 was arrested by Captain Hendra Wollah.

The Shark Supervisory Vessel 07 managed to secure KM. B IV (GT 92) and KM A (GT 95), the two fishing boats allegedly violated fishing areas that were inappropriate or under 12 miles, where the area is a local fishing zone below 30 GT.

The fishing boat uses a pocket pulling net (JTB) fishing gear with a catch of approximately 20 tons of mixed fish each. The ship was escorted to the PSDKP Animal Office in Kotabaru for further processing.
