BYD Plans To Launch The Latest PHEV System, Offers Further Travel Distance

JAKARTA - Build Your Dreams, also known as BYD, has managed to steal the attention of the global automotive industry thanks to the sophistication of its vehicle system.

BYD managed to break down the market by offering a variety of electric vehicles (EVs), plug-in hybrids (PHEVs), and Electric Range Extended Vehicles (EREVs). However, the manufacturer does not want to be complacent and wants to offer cars with other advanced technology for future choices.

Reporting from Autocar, Thursday, March 14, the company based in Shenzhen, China, wants to present the fifth generation PHEV system with a distance of 1,200 miles (or about 1,931 km) incorporating gasoline and electricity. This latest technology will be supported by the next version of the ePlatform platform and is expected to be officially announced at the Beijing Motor Show exhibition in April. This is the evolution of the Dual Mode (DM) system currently offered on BYD vehicles.

First introduced in 2008, DM has experienced significant developments over time. Currently, this system is available on several models, including Song Plus which offers two variants, namely DM-i which focuses on efficiency and DM-p which prioritizes performance.

Both variants are equipped with a 1.5 liter 4-cylinder Atkinson Cycle engine measuring 108 dk. With a combination of electric motors and CVT transmission, the maximum generated power reaches 175 dk.

BYD offers Song Plus with an 8.32 kWh or 18.32 kWh LFP battery pack combined with a 60 liter gasoline tank, providing a range of up to 1,150 km according to CLTC cycles.

The first car to use the latest PHEV technology is scheduled to launch in 2025, leveraging the existing DM system capabilities with additional development of engines, electric motors and batteries.
