Kaspersky Finds Up To 40 Percent Increase In Phishing

JAKARTA - Kaspersky's annual analysis of the landscape of spam and phishing threats revealed a sharp increase in phishing attacks, since 2022.

Kaspersky found that the number of attacks continued to rise in 2023, and jumped more than 40 percent to reach 709,590,011 attempts related to access to phishing links.

"Phishing remains a common threat in today's digital landscape, continuing to develop to deceive suspicious users," Olga Svistunova, a security expert at Kaspersky, said in a statement.

In May and June, Kaspersky saw an increasing number of attacks throughout the year. According to the global cybersecurity firm, this increase could be related to the holiday season.

Where fraudsters usually carry out their actions by spreading fraud related to traveling, such as falsification of airplane tickets, tours, and also lucrative hotel offers.

In addition, the release of events, and premieres of famous films, such as Barbie and Wonka, remain attractive to phishers and fraudsters, whose fake website ensnares users who want to access popular films faster than scheduled or at discount prices.

Kaspersky experts have also observed a spike in attacks spreading through messaging platforms. Kaspersky's solution managed to thwart 62,127 phishing links and fraud attempts on Telegram, an increase of 22 percent compared to last year.
