Airbnb Bans Use Of Security Cameras In Every Lodging Room
JAKARTA - In announcing the new policy, Airbnb is now banning the use of cameras
security and other devices, as an effort to prioritize the privacy of room tenants.
Previously, Airbnb allowed the use of indoor security cameras in public property areas, such as hallways and family rooms, provided the camera was clearly visible, and was not in the bedroom or bathroom area.
However, with this policy update, the company insists that the use of security cameras is not allowed to be in the property, regardless of any location or destination.
"This change was made after consulting with guests, hosts, and our privacy experts, and we will continue to ask for input to help ensure our policies are in line with our global community," said Airbnb's Head of Community Policy and Partnership, Juniper Downs, in an announcement quoted Tuesday, March 12.
However, devices such as door bell cameras and surveillance monitors are still allowed in Airbnb and can be an effective way and protect privacy for the hosts to monitor the safety of their homes.
"However, the host is required to disclose the whereabouts and general location of outdoor cameras before guests order," added Downs.

The company also confirmed that camera use is also prohibited from monitoring certain outdoor areas, such as outdoor showers or closed airways. Hosts are also required to disclose the presence of noise monitoring monitors.
In order for the host to have time to comply with this update, this revised policy will take effect from April 30.
Setelah batas waktu tersebut, jika ditemukan adanya pelanggaran terhadap kebijakan ini, maka Airbnb akan mengambil tindakan tegas seperti pencatatan atau penghapusan akun.
