BMKG Urges The Public To Be Alert To The Potential For Extreme Weather In NTB On March 11-16
The potential for extreme weather in the West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) region on March 11-16, 2024 is a serious concern of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and urges the public to be vigilant.
"Be aware of the potential for extreme weather on March 11-16, 2024 in the NTB area," said Head of the Zaenuddin Meteorological Station Abdul Majid, Lombok, NTB, Satria Topan Primadi in a written statement in Mataram, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, March 11.
BMKG monitors the development of weather conditions throughout Indonesia currently shows the significance of atmospheric dynamics which has an impact on the potential for increased rainfall in a number of regions in Indonesia.
Atmospheric conditions show the activeness of several phenomena that support the formation of quite intensive rain clouds in the future, including the active Equatorial Rossby atmospheric waves and the active Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) in Indonesian territory.
"In addition, cyclonic circulation was observed in the Indian Ocean southwest of Lampung which formed a wind meeting area (convergence) in the NTB region," he said.

Based on these conditions, BMKG predicts the potential for moderate to heavy rainfall which can be accompanied by lightning and strong winds for the period 11-16 March 2024 in North Lombok Regency, Mataram City, West Lombok, Central Lombok, and East Lombok.
"In addition, also in the areas of Sumbawa, West Sumbawa, Bima, Bima City, and Dompu in the morning until early morning," he concluded.
