Innalillahi 10 People Reportedly Buried In Landslides On The South Coast Of West Sumatra, 1 Found Dead
The Pesisir Selatan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), West Sumatra (West Sumatra) stated that at least ten people were buried by landslides triggered by high rainfall in Langgai, Sutera District, Pesisir Selatan Regency."After receiving information from residents, we immediately dispatched a joint search team to the location," said Head of BPBD Pesisir Selatan Doni Gusrizal when contacted from Padang, Antara, Friday, March 9.Of the 10 victims who were buried by the landslide, one person has been found dead."One person was found dead. The identity of the victim is still being identified. Meanwhile, nine other people are still being searched," he said.Doni explained that the decline in the search team to the location was hampered by access, because the road to the landslide point was still flooded."We have informed the Padang SAR Office. Then, to the Public Works Office to assist with equipment in the search," he said.Floods and landslides in Pesisir Selatan Regency have occurred due to extreme rains since last Thursday. BPBD Pesisir Selatan noted that floods and landslides also hit several other sub-districts in the area. Floods resulted in road access breaking and damaged public facilities. Hundreds of hectares of residents' agricultural land were also submerged.Doni detailed that in District IV Jurai, the flood submerged dozens of residents' houses, a suspension bridge unit was cut off by the current in Koto Rawang. In Batang Kapas District 200 housing units were submerged.
"The Koto XI sub-district, the dozens of houses were flooded. The Padang-Painan national road access could not be passed, because the water discharge was already high on the road. Meanwhile, in Lengayang sub-district, residents' houses were flooded and landslides also occurred in Pulai Hill, Batang Kapas District," he said.The number of damage to residents' houses and public facilities is still being recorded, including affected residents. Currently, the South Coast Social Service has established a public kitchen to help the victim's food and drink needs.
