Not Wanting To Concede Babi Flu Cases, Jayapura Regency Government Closes Access To Pig Meat Entering From Mimika

SENTANI - The Jayapura Regency Government (Pemkab), Papua, has closed access to the shipment of pork from Mimika, Central Papua, to prevent the African Swine Fever (ASF) virus from entering this area. The closure of access to the shipment of pork to Jayapura Regency from Mimika is due to the number of pigs that have died from the ASF virus to date 3,278.Veterinarian (drh) Adorvina Wemperpere at the Jayapura Regency Plantation and Livestock Service said the ASF virus case in Mimika Regency had not been found. However, as a precautionary measure, the Regency Government still prohibits the delivery of pork from Mimika Regency and from outside Papua."We have coordinated with the provincial government for the time being, there should be no delivery of pigs from outside to Papua to prevent the ASF virus," he said in Sentani, Antara, Wednesday, March 7.According to Wompore, his party has conducted a survey to villages with cases of pig deaths. After conducting an examination, it turned out that the animal had died from streptococcus disease since January-February."The “ Streptococcus is an animal disease, especially pigs are caused by germs, not caused by the ASF virus, such as in Mimika district," he said.He explained that his party could conclude this because from the way it spread alone it was different between streptococcus disease and the ASF virus.Where streptococcus causes livestock to die one by one while the ASF virus simultaneously."We are also examining the meat sample here whether the pig died due to the ASF virus or streptococcus," he said.He added that the preventive steps taken by his party were to spray sometimes livestock in villages where pigs were dead or to all pig breeders in this area.
"We appeal to all pig breeders to provide vitamins to their livestock and cages that must be sprayed so as to anticipate streptococcus disease and the ASF virus," he said.
