Edhie Baskoro's Political Career, Yudhoyono Putra, A Legislative Candidate Who Controls The Most Votes
YOGYAKARTA - Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono won the most votes in the 2024 Legislative Election (Pileg) yesterday. The second son of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) managed to gain the most votes compared to candidates from all over Indonesia from KPU's Recapitulation Information System (Sirekap) data.
The man who is familiarly called Ibas ran as a candidate for legislature for the Electoral Region (Dapil) of East Java VII. The younger brother of Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono, chairman of the Democratic Party, received 249,345 votes. In this election, he was able to outperform the vote of PDIP candidate Puan Maharani who won 186,033 votes.
The emergence of Ibas' name as the most voting candidate, of course, helped raise the name of the Democratic Party. Ibas is actually not a new figure in the world of politics in the country, because he has sat in the legislative seat several times. Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono's political career was interesting to watch.
Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono was born in Bandung on November 24, 1980. The youngest child of the couple Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) and Kristiani Herrawati followed in the footsteps of their father and brother into politics.
Before entering politics, Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono studied abroad. Ibas studied at Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.
Ibas completed a master's study specializing in International Political Economy and a dissertation entitled 'Revitalization of Indonesia's Economy: Attems to Solve the Twin- Critical-Economic Problems and to Build Foundation for Future Economic Development'.
Still looking to explore economic science, Ibas continued his education on the Doctoral Program at Business Management (DMB) of the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB). He succeeded in completing his doctoral studies in 2021 with the cum laude predicate of IPK 4.0.
Growing up in a family close to politics, his father as the 6th President of Ri, Ibas joined the Democratic Party. However, slightly different from his father and brother Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) who pursued a military career, Ibas had never tasted the military world more.
The name Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono was only widely reported in 2009 approaching the election. Even though at that time his father was the number one person in Indonesia, he had not been involved in the politics of the country. He is more focused on studying abroad to explore the economic field.
The figure of Ibas was increasingly recognized by the public when he stepped up as a legislative candidate in the 2009 election and managed to get the most votes of 327,097 votes. Ibas started his career as a member of the legislature as a member of Commission I of the Indonesian House of Representatives for the 2009-2014 period.
Tak hanya menjabat di kursi parlemen, Ibas juga dipercaya menjadi Wakil Ketua Umum Kamar Dagang dan Industri (Kadin) Indonesia Bidang Promosi Internasional, Pariwisata, Seni Budaya, dan Olahraga untuk periode 2010-2015.
In 2014, Ibas was re-elected as a member of the DPR RI in Commission X of the DPR. He holds the field of Education, Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports. In the same year, he was also trusted to hold the position of Chairman of the Democratic Party's DPP Election Winning Commission for the 2015-2020 period.
Prior to the 2024 General Election, Ibas served in Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives in 2019-2024. He became a member of the council in charge of trade, industry, SME cooperatives, BUMN, investment and standardization. Ibas was also appointed as Chairman of the Democratic Faction in the DPR RI and served as Deputy Chairman of the Banggar DPR RI for the same period.
