TKDN Increases, SMEV Electric Motor Is More Affordable At IIMS 2024

JAKARTA - The Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) 2024 is in the spotlight with the presence of a number of main actors in the Indonesian automotive industry, including in the field of electric motorcycles.

One of the companies participating in this largest automotive exhibition is SMEV, an Indonesian electric motorcycle manufacturer. They presented a series of flagship products, including EM-1 and EM-T, at the event.

The SMEV EM-1 features a design similar to an adventure duck motor with 17-inch patterned rims, an upside down front suspension, and a double-model back suspension. Lighting at the front, sein, and back is supported by LED lights.

Meanwhile, EM-T is designed as a trail bike for cross-field use. Interestingly, these two models use carbon fiber material on their bodies.

What should be considered is the price of both. SMEV EM-1 is sold at a price of Rp. 64.7 million or down from the previous price of Rp. 79 million On The Road Jakarta. Meanwhile, EM-T is priced at Rp. 78.3 million or down from a price of Rp. 98 million.

Donny Ariyanto, founder of SMEV, explained that the price reduction was caused by the Domestic Content Level (TKDN) of the two motorbikes which had reached more than 50 percent, so that the selling price became more affordable.

"We have carried out calculations and the TKDN has reached around 62 percent," Donny told VOI, Thursday, February 22.

Donny also added that until now, the SMEV electric motorcycle unit has recorded 9 units of Vehicle Ordering Letter (SPK) during IIMS 2024. These vehicles will be sent to customers in the next few months, taking into account the personalization needs of consumers.

"We discussed with consumers about their personalization wishes and will be carried out and sent about 30 working days after pre-order. EM-1 and EM-T will enter the production stage starting in May and will be sent in June," added Donny.

In addition, Donny also mentioned that most of the components of the SMEV electric motor use local products, including tires, rims, suspensions, and frames. However, core components such as dynamo and batteries are still imported.

"We use a lot of domestic products for several components, but the core components are still imported, such as dynamo, controllers, and batteries," said Donny.
