Komnas HAM Finds Many Indigenous Peoples Not Participating In Elections Constrained By E-KTP

JAKARTA - The National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) revealed the findings of many indigenous peoples in a number of areas who could not vote in the 2024 General Election.This happened because many indigenous peoples were not registered in the permanent voter list (DPT) because they did not have an electronic identity card (KTP)."For example, it was recorded that around 600 indigenous Bedouin people did not have an electronic ID card," said Komnas HAM member Saurlin P. Siagian at the Komnas HAM Office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Antara, Wednesday, February 21.On the same occasion, Deputy Chairman of Komnas HAM Pramono Ubaid Tanthowi said the need for indigenous peoples to have identity cards is not as high as people in urban areas.However, this is not an excuse not to encourage the manufacture of electronic ID cards for the indigenous people."Because one day they (adat communities) will definitely need the right to health services, education, banking, they will definitely need it. Well, the state must encourage it (the manufacture of electronic ID cards) to them," he said.Pramono hopes that the government can increase socialization of the importance of making electronic ID cards so that indigenous people can participate in the next election.Election participants in 2024 as many as 18 national political parties, namely (according to serial numbers) of the National Awakening Party (PKB), Gerindra Party, PDI Perjuangan, Golkar Party, NasDem Party, Labor Party, and the Indonesian Gelora Party.Next, Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS), Partai Kebangkitan Nusantara (PKN), Partai Hanura, Partai Garuda, Partai Amanat Nasional (PAN), Partai Bulan Bintang (PBB), Partai Demokrat, Partai Solidaritas Indonesia (PSI), Partai Perindo, Partai Persatuan Pembangunan (PPP), and Partai Ummat.In addition, the election for legislative members (pileg) was also attended by six local political parties, namely the Aceh Nanggroe Party, the Atjeh Beusaboh Tha'at and Taqwa Generation Party, the Aceh Darul Party, the Aceh Party, the Aceh Prosperous Justice Party, and the Aceh People's Independent Solidity Party.
Participants in the 2024 Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections (Pilpres) were followed by the pair Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar number 1, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka number 2, and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud Md. serial number 3.
