Aceh Besar Prosecutors Start Susun Dakwaan Regarding The Smuggling Of Rohingya Immigrants

ACEH besar - The public prosecutor of the Aceh Besar District Attorney (Kejari) has started compiling charges related to the crime of smuggling Rohingya immigrants by involving three foreign national suspects.

The head of the Aceh Besar District Attorney's Office, Basril G, revealed that the process of drafting the indictment began after the prosecutor received the delegation of phase two cases along with three suspects and evidence related to the case.

"Currently, the public prosecutor of the Aceh Besar Kejari is compiling the indictment after receiving the delegation of the second or P-21 case from the Banda Aceh Police investigators," said Basril.

Basril explained that the three suspects, who have the initials AH (27), a Bangladeshi citizen, and HB (53) and MA (35) who are citizens of Myanmar, were involved in the crime.

The chronology of the smuggling crime began on November 30, 2023, when the Supreme Court and two other people bought a wooden ship unit for 2 million. Then, they recruited Rohingya immigrants from the Cox's Bazar refugee camp, Bangladesh, for 100 thousand per person.

After successfully collecting 134 Rohingya immigrants, MA together with AH and HB sailed to Indonesia without immigration documents. The immigrant only has a refugee registration card from UNHCR.

"They entered Indonesian territory on December 10, 2023 without immigration documents, while Rohingya immigrants only had refugee registration cards from UNHCR," he said.

The three suspects are suspected of violating Article 120 Paragraph (1) and Article 119 Paragraph (1) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning immigration in conjunction with Article 55 Paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code. The penalty is a maximum imprisonment of 15 years and a maximum fine of IDR 1.5 billion.

The public prosecutor will immediately transfer this case to the Jantho District Court, Aceh Besar District, for the next trial process.
