JAKARTA In the midst of the tightness of the 2024 General Election and Presidential Election, the name Alfiansyah Bustami suddenly became a conversation. Without a massive campaign, comedians who are more popular with the name Komeng actually managed to steal people's hearts.

Many do not know that this senior comedian came forward as a candidate for the Regional Representative Council (DPD) of the West Java electoral district until finally he opened his voice paper on voting day on February 14. No wonder many are surprised to see Komeng's face appear on the ballot paper.

Despite the lack of campaigns, Komeng managed to get the highest votes in the meantime. He was ahead so that he almost certainly walked to Senayan for the period 2024-2029.

He actually told the news about Komeng running as a senator in the middle of last year. He also revealed the reason for choosing the DPD path and not joining political parties to fight for seats in Senayan.

"So maybe if it's from the DPD I can directly with myself, there is no party interest. Not an officer, then. I'm still moving on what I know," said Komeng.

He even admitted that he proposed to change the name ratified by the Cibinong District Court Panel of Judges. This step was taken to smooth his steps to become a senator.

However, Komeng remained unexpected when he decided to change his name. The man who was born on August 25, 1970 just wanted people to know that Alfiansyah Bustami and Komeng were the same person.

"I want to be selected, thank God, like it or not (elect) thank God. That's the point I want (people know Alfiansyah Bustami and Komeng are the same) when it comes to that name," he explained.

Unlike other senator candidates, the intention of Komeng to become a representative of the people is not accompanied by a massive campaign. Let alone sticking banners or billboards on the side of the road, Komeng looks even reluctant to promote himself on his own social media account.

But even with a minimal campaign that was almost non-existent, the comedian managed to excel in the provision of votes. According to KPU data, the vote count results for the 2024 DPD Election until Friday (16/2/2024), Komeng has shot up with 1,314,833 votes and was ranked first.

According to the Executive Director of the Indonesia Political Opinion (IPO) Dedi Kurnia Syah, actually the Indonesian people are too bored with the condition of the nation. So when a different option is provided when choosing representatives of the people, the public will also make their choices with Komeng.

"The public has so far begun to shift in making choices, which in the past they looked at the authority of candidates, but today, more are saturated with old model choices because they have no impact," said Dedi to VOI.

"It makes voters feel better to vote on the new one, and the main comedians are those who don't have controversy, it will be easy to choose," he added.

In addition, explained Dedi, the public likes people who have a good and non-controversial reputation. These two things can be obtained from the figure of Komeng, who has almost never been hit by slanted issues throughout his career as a comedian in the country.

"Commens so far have a good personal reputation in the eyes of the public, not controversial, so they get high public sympathy. The choice for Komeng is not wrong, because DPD for the public also has no impact whatsoever," he said.

On the other hand, political observer at Al Azhar University, Ujang Komarudin, commented on the eccentric photo used by Komeng. He assessed that the use of the eccentric photo shows that Komeng carries a different approach in politics.

"Political approach is not only serious. That's why when we talk about the vision and mission of the program, it only comes half into the Indonesian people. So there are also other approaches, emotional approaches, game approaches, and so on," said Ujang, quoted by Kompas TV.

"Mas Komeng has a unique approach, with interesting and different photos, having differentiations, having differences with others," he said again.

Although known as a hilarious figure, Komeng emphasized that his decision to run for DPD was serious. He said one of his missions was to realize the aspirations of Indonesian artists.
