Bawaslu Decides KPU To Violate 2024 Election Administration In Taipei
JAKARTA - The Indonesian Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) assembly decided that the General Elections Commission (KPU) had violated the 2024 election administration against sending a replacement ballot for elections in Taipei."Decided, one, stating that the reported party was legally and convincingly proven to have violated the election administration," said the chairman of the Puadi Bawaslu Assembly during a verdict hearing at the Indonesian Bawaslu Building, Jakarta, Thursday, February 15, which was confiscated by Antara. In the trial of case Number 001/TM/ADM.PP/BWSL/00.00/II/2024, the Bawaslu Session also decided to give a warning to the Indonesian KPU not to repeat actions that violate statutory provisions. Before giving the decision, Bawaslu concluded that sending a replacement ballot was a violation of the election administration considering Law Number 7 of 2017 concerning General Elections and Regulations of the Election Supervisory Body Number 8 of 2022 concerning the Settlement of Violations of Election Administration.Previously, the KPU through the Taipei Overseas Election Committee (PPLN) on December 18 and 25, 2023 sent 31,276 ballots to voters. Then, the ballot was declared damaged by the Indonesian KPU through a press conference on December 26, 2023.
Furthermore, on December 28, 2023, the Indonesian Bawaslu advised the Indonesian KPU that the ballots that had been sent to voters were 31,276 ballots not considered as ballots damaged. The Indonesian Bawaslu said this by considering the potential for problems that would become widespread, and there was no need for an attempt to send a ballot back as a substitute. However, the Indonesian KPU on January 9 and 10, 2024 still sent replacement ballots without distinction, in the form of stamps with the words PPLN Taipei."Then sending a replacement ballot there were many errors due to the short time considering that the replacement ballot was only received by PPLN Taipei on January 9 and 10, 2024, where there were voters who received 2 ballots for the presidential and vice presidential elections, and 1 ballot for the election of members of the DPR," said Puadi before giving the court's decision.
