Manchester United's Goal Controversy In Match Against Aston Villa
JAKARTA - Manchester United managed to bring home three points after beating Aston Villa at Villa Park in the 24th week of the 2023/2024 Premier League, Sunday, February 11, 2024.
The fifth and sixth-placed heat competition in the standings was full of drama. The controversy occurred when Manchester United opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Rasmus Hojlund.
The goal was judged by Villa fans to be invalid. You see, Casemiro was already in an offside position when he received a pass from Luke Shaw's free kick.
Casemiro jumped and competed for the ball, but did not touch it. In fact, he was not near the ball at all.
A Villa defender headed back to produce a corner that ended with Hojlund's shot.

Because the goal came from a new phase of the game, video assistant referee (VAR) could not see the free kick, whether Casemiro was offside or not. That certainly angers Villa supporters.
"Casemiro is in an offside position for a game that leads to a corner. United scored from a corner. There was no VAR check. What's the point?" said one fan as compiled by The Sun.
"What's even more interesting is that Casemiro is in an offside position from a free kick that leads to the corner. I hate football in the days like today," wrote another Villa fan.
"I really didn't do much wrong and ended up on the losing side. Always against them (Manchester United) too. Let's do it," said the supporter.
"Casemiro, who was offside from a free kick. The referee failed to do so and gave a corner. They scored from the free kick, useless," said the fourth fan.
"Gol United is crazy. A free kick that then put Casemiro in an offside position when they got a corner and scored. The referee was very afraid to make the right decision, too complacent with VAR," wrote the last supporter.
Villa fans can only insult on social media. The game still ended with Manchester United's victory. Hojlund's goal remains legal. That is, he has scored five goals in a row.
After Hojlund's opener, Villa had equalized 1-1 through Douglas Luiz's goal. However, the hosts had to settle for points without a point after Scott McTominay scored the winning goal in the 86th minute.
