Weather February 7th: Alert! Thunderstorms Occur All Over Java Island Today

JAKARTA - Most areas in Indonesia have the potential to experience heavy rain accompanied by lightning and wind including several provinces in Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan on Wednesday, February 7, according to the weather early warning of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).

Based on the BMKG website quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, February 7, heavy rains are predicted to fall in areas in North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, Jambi, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, Banten, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta and East Java.

High-intensity rain also has the opportunity to occur in East Nusa Tenggara, West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, Gorontalo, Central Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua and Papua.

Meanwhile, the areas of DKI Jakarta, Bali and West Nusa Tenggara have the potential to experience rain with lighter intensity.

In particular, several major cities in the archipelago have the potential to experience thunderstorms including Jambi, Surabaya, Samarinda and Tarakan. Rain is forecasting in the cities of Yogyakarta, Bandung, Ambon and Makassar.

BMKG also warned a number of provinces in the alert category due to the impact of rain today, which can occur in areas including Jambi, South Sumatra, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, DI Yogyakarta, East Java, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, West Papua and Papua.

Especially for DKI Jakarta, light rain is predicted to fall in the South Jakarta and the Thousand Islands this afternoon. With other areas, it will enjoy cloudy or cloudy weather.

Previously, the Head of BMKG Dwikorita Karnawati warned of high rainfall that could potentially occur in January-March 2024.

"Rainfall is more or less the same, there is no anomaly. It can reach 400 millimeters in one month. But daily it can experience extremes. Rainfall can reach more than 100 millimeters per day and sometimes it can reach 150 millimeters," he said.
