China Again Calls For Respect For Regions In Middle Eastern Conflict

JAKARTA - Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin has again called for related parties in the Middle East to respect regional sovereignty so that conflicts do not escalate in the region.

"We urge related parties to remain calm, exercise restraint, seriously comply with the UN Charter and international law, respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other countries," Wang Wenbin said when delivering a statement to the media in Beijing, China.

This answered reporters' questions about the latest statements by representatives of China and Russia at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Monday (5/2/2024) that compactly accused the United States of having heated tensions that were already fierce in the Middle East by carrying out a number of attacks on pro-Iran militias in Iraq and Syria.

"We have repeatedly said that the situation in the Middle East is very complex and complicated," added Wang Wenbin.

Wang Wenbin said, respecting the sovereignty of other countries can prevent the situation in the region from heating up or even getting out of control.

The US military is known to have attacked dozens of Iranian-related targets in Iraq and Syria on February 2-3, 2024 in retaliation for a "drone" attack that killed three US troops at the Jordanian base on January 28, 2024.

US airstrikes targeting Iranian elite forces and Tehran-backed militia groups have sparked fears that the raging war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip could turn into a regional conflict.

Russian Ambassador to the United Nations, Vasily Nebenzia said US airstrikes were specific and deliberately aimed at triggering conflict

Meanwhile, the Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations, Jun Zhang, said allegations that US actions would exacerbate the circle of violence in the Middle East.

Israel's attack on October 7, 2023, which destroyed the Gaza Strip in Palestine, has indeed developed in the Middle East region, triggering a series of violent acts involving Iranian-backed groups in Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen.

Meanwhile, the White House stated that it was planning a greater retaliatory measure.
