The European Union Agrees On New Aid Worth IDR 852 Trillion For Ukraine After The Hungarian Veto In December
JAKARTA - The European Union approved new aid for Ukraine worth more than IDR 852 trillion, having previously been detained due to Hungarian veto at a meeting last December.
Meeting on Thursday, EU leaders unanimously agreed to provide new aid to Ukraine by 50 billion euros (Rp852,090,355,500,000). This was achieved after the block leaders asked Hungary to lift their blockade.
"We agree. Unity," European Council President Charles Michel said in a post on X.
"The 27 leaders approved an additional 50 billion euros support package for Ukraine according to the EU budget," he continued.
Details of the approved funds include 33 billion euros in loan form, as well as 17 billion euros that are non-necessary aid, obtained from frozen Russian assets, citing CNN.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky gave his support for the decision after it was announced.
"Thank you to Charles Michel and the EU leaders who have established Ukrainian facilities worth 50 billion euros for 2024-2027," he tweeted.
"It is imperative that the decision be made by all 27 leaders, who once again prove strong EU unity," he continued.
"The EU's ongoing financial support for Ukraine will strengthen long-term economic and financial stability, which is no less important than military aid and pressure sanctions on Russia," President Zelensky said.

The deal came after weeks of disputes with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who vetoed the aid package in December.
Despite giving the green light, the European Union will not disburse EU data for the country frozen Brussels, amid concerns about human rights.
