Bahlil: Whoever The Minister Of Investment Is, Don't Disband Downstreaming

JAKARTA - Candidate for vice president (cawapres) number 2, Gibran Rakabuming Raka echoed downstreaming in order to expand the government's downstream program. The Hilirization mainly takes into account the abundant reserves of nickel and tin, as well as the great potential for new and renewable energy in Indonesia.

Based on Gibran's idea, Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia spoke up. He conveyed his presentation on the realization of progressive investment during the period of President Joko Widodo's administration. Bahlil said the policy must continue after he has finished his tenure.

Bahlil initially conveyed the realization of investment in the downstream sector in 2023. He said the total realization of investment in the downstream sector reached IDR 375.4 trillion. According to him, this figure is 26.5 percent of the total investment realization for the January-December 2023 period.

"Ladies and gentlemen, this downstream is in the 2023 period, it's approximately 26.5 percent of our total investment realization of IDR 1.417 trillion," Bahlil said at the 'Trimegah Political and Economic Outlook 2024' event at The Ritz-Carlton Ballroom, Pacific Place, Jakarta, Wednesday 31 January.

Bahlil emphasized that investment realization in the downstream sector must continue to be increased until the next government period.

"And ideally in the future, the minimum should be 45 percent. So we have to look for an additional 19 percent target," he said.

Thus, he asked the next investment minister to continue this policy. He reminded not to let downstreaming be dissolved.

"So tomorrow whoever becomes the Minister of Investment, his job is to continue from 26 percent to 45 percent. Not to obscure or disband the downstreaming. Because if not, this is dangerous," he said.
