Mahfud MD Resigns As Coordinating Minister For Political, Legal And Security Affairs, NasDem: Should Have Been From The Beginning
JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the NasDem Party Ahmad Ali, responded to Mahfud MD's resignation from his position as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam). Ali surprised why Mahfud only now stated that he would resign from the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet (KIM). "It should have been from yesterday. It should have been from yesterday, yes," said Ali to reporters, Thursday, January 1. According to Ali, Mahfud's decision was late because now his status is already a vice presidential candidate or vice presidential candidate. Moreover, the voting day was only two weeks left yesterday. "It should have been yesterday, when Pak Mahfud officially became a vice presidential candidate," said Ali again. However Ali appreciated Mahfud's decision. Because, Ali saw that there was a conflict of interest in Mahfud's status as a minister as well as a contestant for the 2024 presidential election. "Well, be grateful then today Mr. Mahfud resigned," he said. Previously, Vice Presidential Candidate number 3, Mahfud MD stated that he was ready to resign from his position as Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam). Letter has been made only because he was still waiting for time to meet directly with President Joko Widodo (Jokowi)... "As soon as I met in person, I conveyed this letter to the president directly about my political future, which later became a public discussion and this letter will be submitted as soon as I got a schedule to meet with the president," Mahfud said in a YouTube show, Wednesday, January 31. Mahfud said President Jokowi was still out of town. So, he continued to carry the letter if at any time he was summoned to the State Palace, Jakarta. "As soon as I met in person, I conveyed this letter," he said.
