Germany Will Train 10,000 Ukrainian Military Personnel

JAKARTA - German authorities estimate around 10,000 Ukrainian military personnel will undergo training in their country by 2024, Major General Christian Freuding, the head in charge of coordinating aid to Ukraine at the German Ministry of Defense.

"If necessary, this number can be increased," he told the Welt am Sonntag newspaper as reported by Antara from TASS-OANA, Monday, January 22.

In response to a question about the EU's plan to move training to Ukraine, Freuding confirmed that the plan was not being discussed at this time.

At the same time, said Freuding, Russia's mine barrier, lack of air support and air defense issues were the main reason for the failure of the Ukrainian Armed Forces attack. Freuding admits that Russia currently has military initiatives.

In an earlier interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung newspaper, Freuding said that more than 10,000 Ukrainian military personnel had been undergoing training in Germany since the start of Russia's special military operations in Ukraine.

Training missions for Ukrainian military personnel in a number of EU countries, including Poland and Germany, have been approved by these bloc countries since October 2022.
