Edutech Coursera Platform Records Rapid New User Growth On AI Course

JAKARTA - An edutech platform from the United States, Coursera, records the growth of new users on average one minute per their artificial intelligence (AI) course throughout 2023. This was revealed by the CEO of Coursera, Jeff Maggioncalda, on Thursday, January 18. This is also a clear sign that the public is making improvements in skills to take potential opportunities in the boom of generative artificial intelligence.

"I would say that the real center of attention exists in generative artificial intelligence as it affects so many people," Maggiocalda said at the World Economic Forum at Davos.

Coursera plans to offer a joint artificial intelligence course with companies that are a pioneer in the artificial intelligence race, including OpenAI and DeepMind from Google.

Previously, investors worried that a generating artificial intelligence-based application could replace edutech companies, but on the contrary, this technology actually encourages more people to improve their skills, providing benefits to companies like Coursera.

Coursera has more than 800 artificial intelligence courses and looked at more than 7.4 million registrations last year. Each student on this platform has access to a ChatGPT artificial intelligence assistant called "Coach" that provides personal guidance.

This bot was built using a large language model from Google's OpenAI and Gemini. He also added that the company does not plan to build or train its own model. "We will most likely do fine-tuning with property data on top of this big language model," he said.

Coursera has also used this technology to translate about 4,000 courses into multiple languages and plans to increase recruitment for the role of artificial intelligence this year.
