Mahfud D Asks KPK Employees Perpetrators Of Detention Center Extortion To Be Arrested

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Mahfud MD asked employees of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) related to allegations of illegal levies (extortion) at the KPK Detention Center to be arrested.

"Just arrested... just arrest him," said Mahfud in Medan as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 15.

Mahfud, who is also the vice presidential candidate, said that his party would fight for the KPK to be independent. This is to overcome corruption in Indonesia if it wins the 2024 presidential election.

"Yes, we are fighting for the KPK to be independent. Maybe his name as proposed can become a body or institution. Don't commission, because the commission is usually considered short-term even though it depends on the intent of the maker. If strengthened, yes, strengthen it all, and we can propose it, and it already exists in our program," he said.

Separately, the Supervisory Board of the Corruption Eradication Commission is scheduled to hold a code of ethics trial against 93 KPK employees related to allegations of external levies at the KPK State Detention Center on Wednesday, January 17, 2024.

"The detention case for detention will be tried on Wednesday, 17th, and so on," said KPK Council member Albertina Ho in a press conference on the 2023 KPK Supervisory Board Performance Report.

Albertina said the code of ethics trial would be divided into nine files, each with six files for 90 people and three other files for one person each.

"This extortion case for detention centers is divided into six cases which will be tried immediately. There are three more that will be tried after this case. So, we divided them into nine files because there were 93 people involved," he said.

He said the separation of the ethics trial files was due to the application of different code of ethics articles. However, he did not explain further about the articles applied.
