PVMBG Reminds Residents To Beware Of Rainy Flows From Mount Lewotobi Men

The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) reminded villagers around Mount Lewotobi Laki, East Flores, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) to be aware of the potential for rain lava because it was recorded that it rained at the peak this afternoon.

"Residents are asked to be aware of the flow of lahars from rivers that originate at the top of Mount Lewotobi," said the officer of the Mount Lewotobi Male Observation Post, Bobyson Lamanepa in Wulangitang District, East Flores, as reported by ANTARA, Monday, January 15.

Observation Post Mount Lewotobi Men recorded rain on the top of the mountain with heavy intensity.

In addition, flood vibrations were also recorded at the peak seismic station of Mount Lewotobi.

He reminded the public to be aware of the potential for rain lava flows that occur in the current rainy conditions.

Lahar is a volcanic material deposit carried by rainwater through rivers or valleys when it rains.

In the mapping carried out by the Center for Monitoring of Volcano and Disaster Mitigation of the Land Movement of Nusa Tenggara, there are three locations that have been flowed by rain lava in Ile Bura District.

Two locations in Nobo Village that have been observed to have been electrified by rain, while one point is in Dulipali Village.

The public is also advised not to be near the river when it rains continuously for a long duration.

PVMBG has issued safety recommendations related to the status of mountain activity at level IV or Alert.

Communities around Mount Lewotobi Men and visitors or tourists are not allowed to carry out any activity within a four-kilometer radius of the eruption center and sectoral five kilometers to the Northwest-North and Northeast.
