McDonald's Brings Back The Double Big Mac Menu After Four-Year Absence In The United States

JAKARTA - McDonald's fast food outlet announced the return of the menu, which had become a favorite, but 'disappeared' due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, for consumers in the United States in less than two weeks.

Starting January 24, the network will bring back Double Big Mac, which has four beef breads, not two as usual, but for a limited time throughout Uncle Sam's country.

McDonald's had sold the special sandwich in March 2020, announcing its arrival days before the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States. This condition forced the global fast food network to cut operating hours and reduce the menu offered to consumers, including Double Big Mac.

Unlike the previous version, the Double Big Mac highlights McDonald's's overhaul on its burger core offer, which includes softer bread, adjusts to better arrangements, and improves how to melt cheese. Big Macs, in particular, get more sauce.

Last month, McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski told CNN his customers wanted a larger burger and they were working on it. Selling Double Big Mac is an easy way to offer larger burgers, as it doesn't require additional personnel for employees and is made from existing ingredients.

Although this new burger will have a larger size, it is said that it will not drain consumer pockets.

"We thought we would be able to provide large burgers that tasted good with higher scores than what (customers) could get elsewhere," Kempczinski said.

It is known, McDonald's has sold a variety of Big Mac versions in the past. In 2017 and 2018, Grand Mac and Mac Jr were sold. Although Grand Mac still uses two breads, the size is bigger than a regular piece of meat used on regular Big Macs and is served in larger bread.
