53,751 Persons With Disabilities In South Sulawesi Registered As Voters In The 2024 Election

MAKASSAR - KPU South Sulawesi Province (Sulsel) launched 53,751 disabled voters who have been recorded in the final voter list in the 2024 Election. "The data collected by the South Sulawesi KPU consists of 23,911 physical disabilities, 2,636 intellectual disabilities, 10,968 mental disabilities," said South Sulawesi Provincial KPU Chair Hasbullah quoted by ANTARA, Friday 12 January. In addition, there are 5,889 hearing sensory disabilities, 3,391 hearings, and 6,956 netra-sensorics. The DPT may still change ahead of the February 14, 2024 voting, because there are still stages of determining the additional voter list (DPTb). Meanwhile, the Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) South Sulawesi Saiful Jihad said that voters with disabilities should be the concern of the KPU so that their voting rights can be distributed on February 14, 2024. "Moreover, the disabilities vary, start not to be able to run until they hear or see. We want to be sure at the TPS where they channel their voting rights so that they are facilitated," he said. This is none other than because they want their rights to be fulfilled, despite having limitations. In this regard, he hopes that the South Sulawesi KPU will aggressively conduct socialization to people with disabilities. As an illustration, there is a disability that cannot speak or does not hear. These must all be socialized by the KPU so that they (disability voters) understand what to be prepared. One of the ones that must be prepared by the KPU, Saiful said is a special TPS for the disabled voters.

"There must be room to access TPS like the disabled. There must also be wheelchair lanes. Our brothers and sisters are short. We have conveyed all of this to the KPU," he explained. Responding to this, the commissioner of the South Sulawesi KPU Hasbullah said, his party continues to inform officers in the field to prepare facilities for people with disabilities, so that they can access polling stations and channel their aspirations.
