Twitch, Amazon Streaming Unit, Will Cut 35% Of Employees Or 500 Workers

JAKARTA - Amazon.com streaming unit Twitch is preparing to cut employees by 35%, or about 500 workers. This was first reported by Bloomberg News, citing sources familiar with the plan.

The move could be announced as soon as Wednesday, the report added.

Despite its nine years after the acquisition by Amazon, the business still has not made a profit, the report said.

Twitch has yet to provide a direct response to a request for comment from the media.

Twitch CEO Dan Clany said in December 2023 that the company would shut down operations in South Korea in February this year, due to high operating costs and network costs.

The company laid off more than 400 employees in March last year after user growth and revenue did not meet expectations.
