Prefer AI, Duolingo Lays Off 10 Percent App Contractors

JAKARTA Duolingo, a language learning application, WARns ten percent of contractors from his company. According to a Briomberg report, this is due to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The termination of employment (PHK) was carried out after Duolingo improved their AI capabilities. The source of Briomberg also suspected that the cuts in contractors occurred because Duolingo preferred to work with AI.

"We no longer need a lot of people to do the work these contractors do.... Some of it may be caused by AI," said an unnamed spokesman.

Meanwhile, Duolingo Chief Executive Officer (CFO) Luis von Ahn said that Duolingo was able to quickly create new content using AI. This was conveyed to shareholders last November.

In addition to processing scripts using AI, Duolingo can use AI to produce sound in the application and create a premium level under the Duolingo Max name. This new service is a language learning medium with a accesschatbot.

Duolingo is also developing an AI feature with the name Roleplay. Users can use this feature to develop their language skills with the lightly developed chats. All of these AI-powered features are supported by the OpenAI GPT-4.

It is not yet known whether Duolingo will worry about more contractors in the future. However, for now they still maintain the majority of contractors even though they still rely on AI's ability to work.
