Approaching RB Leipzig, Manchester United Wants To Borrow Timo Werner

JAKARTA - Manchester United still have difficulty getting the best players. So, MU can only target medical striker Timo Werner who plays at RB Leipzig. MU hopes to borrow Werner until the end of this season.

It's not easy for MU to get a reliable goal engine. Contrasts when the club was in the heyday era. MU has never had trouble getting top strikers like Wayne Rooney or Robin van Persie who were taken from rival club Arsenal.

Now, it's all difficult because MU is no longer the top club. In the aftermath, the Red Devils can only bring in players who don't have a target. In fact, MU even brought in veteran Zlatan Ibrahimovic in order to have a reliable striker.

The same situation faced by Manager Erik ten Hag. MU does not have a striker with the instinct to score very high goals like Ruud van Nistelrooy for example.

Meanwhile, Rasmus Hojlund, who was brought in from Atalanta, was still young and needed time to become MU's goal engine. Evidently, he is still barren and has only scored one goal in the 2023/2024 Premier League.

Ten Hag himself started chasing forwards, especially after Manchester United released Anthony Martial. Practically, this three-time Champions League champion can only rely on Hojlund in front lines. This is the consideration of Ten Hag looking for a new striker.

Werner is a target and is expected to be a solution in front of MU. However, MU plans to borrow this former Chelsea striker. The reason is, Ten Hag did not get funds from MU to buy a forward.

Werner is an option because he can become a tandem and is tasked with guiding Hojlund. Despite failing in the Premier League, Werner is still recognized as one of the strikers who is quite capable. Moreover, he can play on the wing and central forward.

Werner himself expressed his interest in returning to the Premier League. He hopes to rise with MU after failing at Chelsea.

When he came to England to join Chelsea, Werner was predicted to be the goal machine that opposing defenders feared.

At that time, he was indeed performing well with Leipzig and became the mainstay of the new line in front of the German national team.

However, the 26-year-old striker failed in England. For two seasons, 2020 to 2022, Werner has only scored 10 goals in 56 games with the Blues.

However, he became part of the team when he won the 2021 Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup.
