BYD Prints Record For Environmentally Friendly Car Sales In 2023
JAKARTA - Chinese auto giant BYD said the record sales of environmentally friendly vehicles were 3,024,417 million units by 2023, meaning they were in line with the company's ambitious targets.
Quoted from the Carnewschina page, Tuesday, January 2, the figure above reflects a year-on-year increase of 62.3%. These sales significantly surpassed the previous year's sales record of 1,863,494 vehicles.
In particular, the BYD commercial vehicle segment has played an important role, recording sales of 11.511 units in 2023. This category includes electric buses, trucks, and other vehicles, which experienced a significant increase of 88.2 percent. The growth in sales of commercial vehicles surpassed the company's overall sales growth.
A very important trend in this segment is the surge in sales of pure electric models, which amount to 1,574,822 units, showing strong growth from year to year of 72.8 percent. Sales of battery electric vehicles (BEVs) account for 52.3 percent of total passenger car sales, this shows an increasing consumer preference for electric mobility.
Although plug-in hybrid models also show large growth, the growth rate is slightly more moderate than pure electric vehicles. The sales of plug-in hybrid models in 2023 reached 1,438,084 units, reflecting an increase year-on-year of 52.0 percent.
Not only that, sales of BYD electric vehicles abroad have shown tremendous development, reaching a total of 242,766 vehicles sold in markets outside China in 2023. This surprising figure reflects a year-on-year increase of 334 percent, surpassing the cumulative sales of companies overseas for nearly two decades.
