Failed Penalty, Alex Meret Saves Napoli From Defeat

Napoli picked up a disappointing result after a 0-0 draw against Monza in an Italian Serie A match at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, Saturday, December 30 in the morning WIB. Napoli even almost lost if goalkeeper Alex Meret did not miss Monza's penalty.

Appearing at home, Napoli hopes to break a bad record after swallowing three defeats from the last four matches. Including when forced to surrender 2-0 against AS Roma.

But the hope of winning at home to Monza was dashed. On the other hand, Monza almost won the game if Matteo Pessina's penalty didn't fail.

The draw against Monza remains in seventh place with 28 points. The same as Roma, who are ahead on goal difference, so they are one strip above Napoli.

Meanwhile, Monza's position on the middle board has not changed. They are ranked 11th with 22.

In that match, Napoli lost the mainstay duo of Victor Osimhen and Matteo Politano after getting a red card in the match against Napoli. Without both, the power of the first partenopei decreased.

Napoli were no longer as fierce as usual when attacking the opponent's defense. On the other hand, Monza actually had time to maneuver that endangered the Meret goal.

Monza got a good chance through Pedro Pereira. Luckily Pereira's effort still failed because his shot slightly turned the direction so it went wide.

Napoli finally got a chance. But Andre Frank Zambo Anguissa's volley was saved by goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio.

Furthermore, Giovanni defender Di Lorenzo who welcomed the rebound ball also failed. Di Lorenzo's shot soared over the crossbar.

Towards the end of the first half, winger Kvicha Kvaratskhelia also threatened Monza's goal. It's just that his shot went wide so that the final score when the Minm fell did not change.

In the second half, Napoli again pressed the Monza defense. Opportunities were obtained through Amir Rrahmani, whose header was still soaring.

Meanwhile, Giacomo Raspadori's cross also failed. Kvaratskhelia, who received Raspadori's cross, actually only had to face one on one with Di Gregorio. But his efforts could be thwarted.

Monza, who was under pressure, even had the chance to score a goal when he was awarded a penalty in the 68th minute.

Penalti was given after Andrea Colpani's kick hit Mario Rui's arm. Because the incident occurred in the area, the referee pointed to the spot.

Unfortunately, Pessina's shot was too weak and the ball headed in the middle. So Meret was able to thwart his execution.

Not long after, Meret even suffered a muscle injury and had to be withdrawn. His position was replaced by second goalkeeper Nikita Contini-Baranovskyi who was rarely taken down.

However, both teams still could not score. Until the end of the match the score remained 0-0.
