Israel Says No Staff Was Injured In Explosion Near Embassy In Delhi India
JAKARTA - The Israeli Embassy in New Delhi, India confirmed that none of its staff were injured in an explosion near their site on Tuesday evening, while an investigation into the cause of the explosion was underway.
"We can confirm at around 17.20 a.m. there was an explosion near the embassy," Israeli Embassy spokesman Guy Nir told Reuters.
Guy Nir also added that the local police and the security team were conducting an investigation into the explosion.
"Nothing was found in the search operation three hours after the explosion," an official involved in the investigation told Reuters.
Authorities are still investigating the area, but it has reopened to the general public. There is no information to suggest anyone on the road was injured.
Israel itself urges its citizens in India, particularly in New Delhi, to exercise caution. The explosion "may be an attack," the Israel National Security Council said in a statement issued by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office.
Israel's worldwide mission has been on standby amid rising anti-semite attacks since Israel launched a retaliatory attack on Palestinian militants Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
