North Sumatra Prosecutor's Office Demands 18 Years In Prison For Acehnese Courier 2 Kg Of Crystal Methamphetamine

The Public Prosecutor of the North Sumatra High Prosecutor's Office, Randi H Tambunan, demanded 18 years in prison for Zulfikar (23), a resident of North Aceh Regency, Aceh, in the case of being a courier for two kilograms of methamphetamine.

"In addition, the defendant was fined Rp. 2 billion, a subsidiary of 1.5 years in prison," Randi said at the Medan District Court, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, December 21.

He said the defendant was believed to be proven and guilty of a criminal act of violating Article 114 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics.

In essence, said Randi, without rights or against the law, he offered to sell, sell, buy, accept, become an intermediary in buying and selling, exchanging, or handing over narcotics class I in the form of non-plants as much as one bag weighing 2,000 grams.

"The aggravating thing is that acts do not support the government's program in eradicating drugs and disturbing the community," said Randi.

Meanwhile, according to Randi, the mitigating factor for the defendant had never been convicted, acknowledged and regretted his actions and was polite at trial.

After reading the memorandum of demand, the panel of judges chaired by Sarma Siregar continued the trial with the agenda of a memorandum of defense (pledoi) from the defendant and legal advisers scheduled for January 8, 2024.

In the indictment, the defendant asked Rian (DPO) for a job. Then the defendant went to the Krueng Geukueh area, North Aceh by traveling to Medan.

After that, the defendant stayed at a hotel in Medan. Then, the defendant bought a ticket to Lombok. Then the defendant went to Kualanamu International Airport, North Sumatra, was arrested by the North Sumatra Police's Narcotics Directorate along with evidence.

Meanwhile, the defendant Zulfikar admitted to bringing the evidence. He reasoned because he did not have a job.
