Trenggono: Indonesia Still Has Not Been Able To Manage Sea Resources With The Maximum

JAKARTA - Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono said Indonesia was still unable to manage marine natural resources (SDA) optimally.

In fact, Indonesia is a maritime country that has around 17,400 islands and 6.4 million square kilometers of water areas.

"Imagine this (potential) is extraordinary and Indonesia as a maritime country has not been able to maximize this potential," said Minister Trenggono at the National Fisheries Development Meeting of Blue Economy-Based Cultivation at The Ritz Carlton Pacific Place, Jakarta, Monday, December 18.

Trenggono assessed that if the potential for Indonesian marine resources could be worked on seriously, it could produce large economic value.

He revealed, based on the results of Sky Quest research in 2023, the demand for seafood commodity needs is quite high, reaching 310 billion US dollars in 2021. Then, it will increase to 338 billion US dollars in 2022.

The demand for seafood commodities is predicted to reach US$730 billion in 2030.

"Meanwhile, we have a very wide space. So, in my opinion, we really have to reflect on how to manage it," he said.

In addition, Trenggono also regrets that Indonesia still does not have the ability to make substitutional fish feed.

This causes Indonesia to still depend on importing fish feed from foreign countries. It is known, the need for fish feed reaches 89 percent of import procurement.

Therefore, said Trenggono, his party will cooperate with universities to find a way out so that they do not depend on importing raw fish feed materials.

"We have to move if we can't do that, in the end we will become a country that is left behind," he added.
