Yogyakarta Health Office Did Not Find Mycoplasma From Hundreds Of Pneumonia Cases In Children
YOGYAKARTA - Yogyakarta City Health Office said it did not find any infection with the Mycoplasma pneumonia bacteria from hundreds of pneumonia cases in children that appeared in this region.Head of Disease Control Prevention, Data Management and Information System of the Yogyakarta City Health Office, Lana Unwanah, said that all pneumonia cases in the city are common pneumonia with mild to moderate categories."It's still up to a moderate category so it doesn't require hospitalization," Lana said in Yogyakarta, as reported by Antara, Friday, December 8.Most cases of pneumonia or cases of acute respiratory infection (ARI) in children in the city of Yogyakarta are mostly caused by respiratory syncytial viruses (RSV), fungi, or bacteria other than mycoplasma pneumonia.Lana said that from the first week of 2023 to the 47th week there were 156 pneumonia cases in children being treated at the Yogyakarta City Hospital.Meanwhile, based on data from 18 health centers in the city of Yogyakarta, a total of 441 cases of pneumonia in children were recorded from January to October 2023.According to Lana, the number of pneumonia cases did not increase significantly compared to last year's data and all of them have recovered.Because it is still a mild to moderate category, according to him, it is enough to be treated with outpatient care and administration of medicines without the need for PCR examination or laboratory examination."If we don't show severe symptoms, we won't get laboratory tests that way," he said.Lana appealed to people in the city of Yogyakarta not to panic while still making prevention efforts, one of which is by ensuring that children get complete immunizations.According to him, in the complete immunization program launched by the government, there are already pentavident and PCV vaccines that are considered capable of preventing mycopplasma pneumonia."Don't miss the schedule for complete immunization in children under five. Our immunization achievement has not yet reached 100 percent," he said.He hopes that no community will refuse immunization, and there will be no more narratives accusing the vaccine business of facing mycoplasma pneumonia."Sometimes our people think this is selling vaccines, the vaccines are all free, how come no one is paid," he said.As a precautionary measure, Lana also appealed to the public to familiarize health protocols such as wearing masks and implementing a clean and healthy lifestyle (PHBS).Head of Control of Infectious Diseases (P2M) and Immunization of Yogyakarta City Health Office Endang Sri Rahayu said monitoring of ISPA cases in all health facilities (faskes) in this region was intensified to prevent pneumonia cases due to infection with mycoplasma pneumoniae bacteria.
Intensive monitoring has been carried out on 18 health centers spread across the city of Yogyakarta through the puskesmas management information system (Simpus). The move follows the issuance of a circular letter from the Indonesian Ministry of Health Number PM.03.01/C/4632/2023 regarding vigilance against the incidence of mycoplasma pneumonia in Indonesia.
