Law Must Be Fair, IPW Urges Police To Detain Inactive KPK Chair Firli Bahuri
JAKARTA - Indonesia Police Watch (IPW) urged the police to immediately detain the inactive KPK chairman Firli Bahuri. According to IPW, the detention of Firli is a form of commitment to equitable law enforcement. "IPW also emphasized the importance of Firli's detention as an effort to emphasize that law enforcement must be fair, indiscriminate, in line with the concept of equality before the law," said IPW Chairman Sugeng Teguh Santoso in his statement, Tuesday, December 5. IPW also emphasized the need for Polda Metro to accelerate the investigation process and immediately fulfill all instructions from the DKI High Prosecutor and High Prosecutor's Office. "The IPW urges Firli's file to be immediately declared P-21 and submitted to the High Prosecutor's Office," continued Sugeng. The inactive KPK chairman, Firli Bahuri, is scheduled to undergo an investigation related to the alleged extortion of former Agriculture Minister Syahrul Yasin Limpo at the Police Criminal Investigation Unit on Wednesday. "The examination at 10.00 WIB was carried out in the context of an additional request for information," said the Director of Criminal Investigation of Polda Metro Jaya, Kombes Pol Ade Safri Simanjuntak, on Monday.

Polda Metro Jaya has officially named Firli Bahuri as a suspect in the alleged extortion case against the former Minister of Agriculture SYL. Firli was charged with Article 12e or Article 12B or Article 11 of Law 31/1999 which has been amended by Law 20/2001 concerning Amendments to Law 31/1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code. Firli faces the most severe sentence of life imprisonment.
