Meta Removes Instagram and Facebook Cross-App Chat Capability This Month
JAKARTA - Meta announced that starting mid-December, users will no longer be able to chat with Facebook accounts via Instagram.
“Starting mid-December 2023, you will no longer be able to chat with Facebook accounts on Instagram,” the company wrote in an announcement on its help page, which was discovered by Engadget.
Announced in 2019, this optional cross-platform integration was implemented a year later in 2020. This capability combines two of the company's most popular services.
Meta says that, once cross-app communication is unavailable, you won't be able to start new conversations or calls with a Facebook account from Instagram.
“Any chat you have with your Facebook account will be read-only. "This means that you and other people cannot send new messages in the chat," he added.

Additionally, Facebook account users will also no longer be able to see your Activity Status or whether you have seen their messages or not.
It's also worth noting that, any chats you have with your Facebook account will not be moved to your inbox on Facebook or Messenger.
Essentially, if you want to continue a conversation with a Facebook account, you can start a new chat with them via Messenger or Facebook from your Facebook account.
