Tangerang District Court Judge Gives Light Punishment For IPhone Reseller Fraudulents Worth IDR 35 Billion

TANGERANG If Riana was sentenced to 4 years and a fine of Rp. 1 billion, now it is Rihani's turn to get a verdict from the Panel of Judges lighter than his twin. Even though the Public Prosecutor (JPU), demanded that the two defendants be in prison for 5 years.

In fact, the two iPhone reseller fraudsters actually received a light sentence. Rihani was only sentenced to IDR 3 years in prison. Seeing that there were dozens of victims in this case, with a nominal value of IDR 35 billion, of course the judge's decision was deemed unfair to the victim, Riana Rihani.

The Panel of Judges sentenced the defendant Rihani to 3 years in prison. This was read out directly in the Tangerang District Court (PN) courtroom.

The Panel of Judges assessed that the defendant Rihani had been proven to have violated Article 372 in conjunction with Article 64 Paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code concerning embezzlement.

"Declaring that the defendant Rihani alias Nani bint Muslih has committed an act intentionally and against the law has something entirely or partly belonging to someone else," said the Panel of Judges at the Tangerang District Court, Monday, December 4.

"Imposing, the defendant Rihani was sentenced to three years in prison and remains detained," he continued.

The verdict given by the Panel of Judges against the defendant Rihani was lighter than that of his twin Rina. Rina was sentenced to 4 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion.

The Public Prosecutor (JPU) has charged the twins Rinahan and Rihani for the iPhone buying and selling fraud case with a sentence of 5 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 1 billion.

The twins, Riana and Rihani, are considered by the prosecutors to have been proven to have committed a criminal act intentionally and spread false news that is misleading, resulting in consumer losses in electronic transactions.

The fraud case committed by Riana Rihani has been reported since June-October 2022, with the nominal loss of the victim reaching Rp35 billion, 18 police reports.

Rinhana-Rihani launched his fraudulent act with the mode of selling iPhones to resellers. Both use the preorder system to get customers.

The victims were promised to get an iPhone at a cheaper price than the market. However, the victim did not receive the promised item.
