Wamenkumham Chooses To Smile After Being Examined By KPK Investigators Since Morning

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Law and Security (Wamenkumham) Edward Omar Syarif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej chose to smile after being questioned by investigators from the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK).

From observations in the field, Eddy was examined for seven hours from 09.40 WIB, Monday, December 4. When he left he did not make any statement.

Eddy chose to smile at reporters who had been waiting for him since morning. He left the Lobby of the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta at around 16.14 WIB.

Eddy also made the same smile when he was asked about the pressure to resign from his position as Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights. There was no statement whatsoever that was conveyed even though he had difficulty passing through the crowd of reporters.

After arriving outside the building, he immediately got into the black Mitsubishi Pajero car. Eddy then rushed out of the building.

Regarding Eddy's examination, the Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri said his capacity was not as a suspect. "The investigative team has scheduled summons and witness examinations," said Ali.

Previously reported, Eddy was named a suspect along with three other people. He is suspected of receiving gratuities and bribes.

The KPK revealed that the form of gratification was allegedly in the form of receiving a sum of money related to the consultation and assistance for the ratification of a company's legal entity. The determination of the suspect based on an investigation warrant (sprindik) has been signed since two weeks ago.

The anti-corruption commission has also sent a letter to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the determination of Eddy Hiariej as a suspect. The letter was received by the Ministry of State Secretariat (Setneg) on Friday, December 1.

To investigate this case, the KPK has also asked the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to prevent four people from leaving the country. Apart from Eddy, those prevented were Yosi Andika Mulyadi and Yogi Arie Rukmana who were his personal assistants. Meanwhile, one private party is the President Director of PT Citra Lampia Mandiri Helmut Hermawan.
