Deputy Minister Of Law And Human Rights Eddy Hiariej Responds To The KPK's Call As A Witness Today

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej alias Eddy Hiariej fulfilled the summons of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) today, Monday, December 4. He came to provide information regarding the alleged bribery and gratuities that ensnared him.

From observations in the field, Eddy came around 09.40 WIB. He appeared to be wearing a red shirt and smiling when he saw the media crew.

Eddy, who was accompanied by several people, did not talk about the case that ensnared him. He just rushed inside to undergo an examination.

"Later, yes," he said upon arrival at the KPK's Red and White Building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta.

"(I, ed) am in good health. Let's go," he continued when asked how the media crew was while walking.

After entering the KPK building, Eddy filled in the guest book and was given a red light which indicated being a litigant. Then, he went up to the examination room at 09.47 WIB.

Meanwhile, the Head of the KPK News Section, Ali Fikri, said that Eddy was being questioned not as a suspect. "(Examined, red) as a witness," he told reporters.

Previously reported, Eddy was named a suspect along with three other people. He is suspected of receiving gratuities and bribes.

The KPK revealed that the form of gratification was allegedly in the form of receiving a sum of money related to the consultation and assistance for the ratification of a company's legal entity. The determination of the suspect based on an investigation warrant (sprindik) has been signed since two weeks ago.

The anti-corruption commission has also sent a letter to President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) regarding the determination of Eddy Hiariej as a suspect. The letter was received by the Ministry of State Secretariat (Setneg) on Friday, December 1.

To investigate this case, the KPK has also asked the Directorate General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to prevent four people from leaving the country. Apart from Eddy, those prevented were Yosi Andika Mulyadi and Yogi Arie Rukmana who were his personal assistants. Meanwhile, one private party is the President Director of PT Citra Lampia Mandiri Helmut Hermawan.
