32 Years Named A World Heritage Site, Borobudur Temple Holds Celebration

JAKARTA - The Borobudur World Heritage Museum and Cultural Heritage (MCB) will hold various activities to celebrate its status as a World Heritage site that has been intercepted by Borobudur Temple 32 years ago.

"This series of activities entitled Argya Abidhaya will take place from 4-10 December 2023," said MCB Coordinator for Cultural Heritage Borobudur Wiwit Kasiyati in Magelang, Sunday, December 3, confiscated by Antara.

Argya is taken from Sanskrit, meaning celebration of cultural gatherings. This cultural arts activity will involve the community around the Borobudur Temple area. So that they can take part in celebrating the day of determining the Borobudur Temple complex as a World Heritage.

He said that this artistic and cultural activity involved people in the Borobudur area. This is because community culture is a cultural landscape as an attribute that must be preserved.

Thus, it is not only the Borobudur Temple that is utilized, but the arts and culture of the surrounding community. So that utilization for the welfare of the community can be harmonized.

"Which leads to the welfare of the community," he said.

The commemoration actually falls on December 13, 2023. However, the celebration will start from 4-10 December 2023. This art and cultural activity is divided into three activities in two locations. The main location is in the Aksobya area of Borobudur Temple. Then the second location is in Randu Alas Field, Tuksongo Village.

Program Director Altiyanto Henryawan said this celebration was an expression of gratitude and joy after the Borobudur Temple complex was designated as a World Heritage. Not only MCB, but the community also took part in the existence of Borobudur Temple.

This program, he said, was touched not only as a form of conservation and use of temples. But also the promotion and development of temples.

"The activities that are organized are designed and actualize the cultural heritage of Borobudur Temple," he said.

He said the three activities included Pasaya Mbuduran. The location is Randu Alas Field, Tuksongo Village from 4-10 December 2023. Which presents culinary products and potential crafts from 23 villages assisted by MCB. 20 villages in Borobudur District and 3 villages in Mungkid District.

In addition, there are also various local culinary products that are rare from culinary craftsmen Borobudur, Magelang, Muntilan, and Jogja. As well as antiques and old goods from the old goods seller community.

"This activity will cooperate with the Kangen Yogyakarta Market community and the Borobudur Cultural Market," he said.

Then, the second activity is Nritya or an art performance by carrying out a performance parade for dance and music. The dance and music works to be displayed have the theme of the past history of the archipelago.

In this activity, he said, he would empower the MCB fostered village studios. As well as involving artists and art groups from SMKI Ygyakata, Surakarta, Prambanan, and Temanggung. The activity took place on 9-10 December 2023 at Taman Aksobya Borobudur.

Then, the last activity is Baswara or a lighting show at the Aksobya Borobudur Park venue on 9-10 December 2023. This activity is a light installation show that will also be used as a background for art performance activities.

He explained that the installation of light can be the main attraction. This is because Borobudur Temple will not only be the background for art performances, but can be an important point in this light system performance. This show is designed by light and visual artists from Yogyakarta and Bali.
