BMW Partners With Mercedes-Benz Presenting Charging Stations In China

JAKARTA - In order to accelerate the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem in China, the BMW Brilliance Automotive Ltd together with China's Mercedes-Benz Group, announced that it had reached an agreement to establish a joint venture in operating a charging network.

Each company will hold 50 percent of the joint venture. Not only that, both will provide premium charging services to customers in Chinese territory.

Reporting from BMW's official website, Thursday, November 30, both BMW and Mercedes-Benz will implement expertise gained from global and Chinese charging operations, as well as an in-depth understanding of China's new energy vehicle market.

This collaboration is intended to improve the charging experience to customers and demonstrate steps for both companies to accelerate environmentally friendly ecosystems globally.

This joint venture will build a network of 1,000 high-power charging stations and plans to add to 7,000 networks by the end of 2026. The station is said to be adopting the most advanced technology.

The first station is expected to open for business in 2024 in an area with the latest energy vehicle ecosystem, which will then be installed nationally.

The joint venture intends to gain electricity generated from renewable sources, if conditions allow, to create a sustainable and environmentally friendly charging experience.

This is one of the many concrete steps between the two companies in presenting a sustainable ecosystem. Previously, the two companies had collaborated with manufacturers such as GM, Hyundai, Kia, Stellantis, and Honda, in building electric car charging infrastructure in North America.

Through this partnership, the seven auto giants are committed to building an electric car charging network that is easily accessible, convenient, and reliable, with plans to provide 30,000 high charging points to meet the needs of millions of electric car users.
