Only Four Left After Firli Deactivated, Nawawi Says KPK Leadership Deliberation Will Be Prioritized

JAKARTA - The interim chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Nawawi Pomolango will prioritize deliberation among the three leaders. This effort was made so that there would be no differences of opinion considering that there are now only four anti-corruption commission leaders after Firli Bahuri.

It is known that Firli was temporarily dismissed as chairman after being named by Polda Metro Jaya as a suspect in the alleged extortion or acceptance of gratuities from former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo.

"As much as possible, we will apply to deliberate to get a decision product that does not have an opinion dissenting in it," Nawawi told reporters, Tuesday, November 28.

Nawawi said that at a time like today, the head of the anti-corruption commission should not need to have different views. Thus, decisions can be quickly taken collectively collegially.

"As much as possible, in this temporary period there will not be different opinions from the four, so we don't get confused, we will calculate two-thirds of the four", he said.

As previously reported, Nawawi was appointed as the Temporary Chair of the KPK by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) at the State Palace, Jakarta, Monday, November 27.

He then gathered the leaders to discuss the condition of the institution after Firli Bahuri was temporarily dismissed for being a suspect.

Firli is currently a suspect in the alleged extortion or receipt of bribes from former Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Syahrul Yasin Limpo. The decision was made by the Polda Metro Jaya after the case was carried out.

Several pieces of evidence that became the basis for determining the suspect were foreign exchange documents worth Rp7.4 billion. Then, there were also the results of the extraction of 21 cellphones. In the case of alleged extortion and acceptance of gratuities, Firli was charged with Article 12e, 12B or Article 11 of Law number 31 of 1999 concerning the eradication of corruption in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code. Firli faces life imprisonment.
