Support COP28, TikTok Announces New Initiative Worth IDR 15 Billion
JAKARTA As one of the largest social media platforms in the world, TikTok strives to be a pioneer in fighting climate change through the various campaigns they have voiced.
This time, TikTok has re-launched new initiatives and programs through the 2023 ClimateAction hashtag. The campaign, which was announced on Monday, November 27, is worth 1 million US dollars or around Rp. 15 billion.
TikTok said that the campaign was deliberately launched to support the UN Climate Change Conference COP28. This new initiative was also mobilized to support Verified for Climate, a joint program from the United Nations and Purpose.
With the presence of this initiative, TikTok will bring scientists and experts from Brazil, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Spain to support educational content in overcoming climate disinformation and encouraging action to fight climate change.
"Through this new initiative, we look forward to partnering with a team of experts to provide more information and inspire us with the global community," said Vice President of Public Policy for the Developing Market of TikTok Helena Lersch, quoted by VOI from an official release.

In line with this new initiative, TikTok wants to emphasize that their policy prohibits firm disinformation of climate change, such as denial of climate change to influence factors deemed deceptive.
During COP28 held from November 30 to December 12, TikTok invited content creators to create videos with the hashtag ClimateAction. Hopefully, this hashtag can be more popular than existing campaigns.
So far, the hashtags ClimateChange, ClimateAction, and Sustainable Living have been quite popular and widely used. Each of these hashtags received a total of 6.6 billion, 2.5 billion, and 1.9 billion views.
