Apart From EVs, Hyundai Will Build a Hydrogen Mobility Ecosystem in Singapore

JAKARTA - In order to advance environmentally friendly industries, Hyundai Motor Company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Poh Tiong Choon Logistic Limited (PTC) to build a hydrogen mobility ecosystem in Singapore.

PTC is a leading logistics service provider in Singapore. This partnership will combine their expertise, experience and resources in building a sustainable hydrogen ecosystem, from production to utilization.

The collaboration also includes exploration and development of projects to create a hydrogen ecosystem, commercial vehicles and business models, according to an alert on the company's website, Saturday, November 25.

This is of course in line with what Singapore wants to achieve, namely achieving 50 percent hydrogen use in electricity generation by 2050 while developing hydrogen technology through decarbonization pathways.

Hydrogen is nothing new for the South Korean automotive giant. The company also announced plans to produce hydrogen using biogas derived from food waste processing in early September.

The aim of this agreement is to demonstrate a system capable of producing 216 kilograms of green hydrogen every day by utilizing biogas produced by SL Corporation within the next two years.

Nexo

In addition, Hyundai has the only production model with hydrogen technology, namely the Nexo. This car competes with the Toyota Mirai in this segment in the US market. Even though this model is less competitive than its competitors, this car is still in demand by several groups who need environmentally friendly mobility other than EVs.

During the third quarter, 966 Fuel Cell Vehicle (FCV) units were sold in the US, an increase of 531 percent compared to last year with 882 units controlled by the Mirai and only 68 Nexo units sold in Uncle Sam's country.
